England. Championship is the second division of English football, directly below the Premier League. Its 2026-27 season kicked off on the weekend of 14-17 August 2026.
Play-offs open down to 8th
1st and 2nd go up automatically. New for 2026-27, the play-offs grow from four clubs to six: 5th hosts 8th and 6th hosts 7th in one-off eliminators, the winners meet 3rd and 4th in two-legged semi-finals, and the final is played at Wembley.
